CH Good Stock
Parklet

Oakland CA | 2012
Unbuilt

CH Good Stock, a boutique located on upper Piedmont Avenue, sought to build a parklet to help activate a then desolate area of "The Avenue" near the Julia Morgan-designed Chapel of the Chimes and on the approach to the Mountain View Cemetery designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead. A simple C-shaped bench was conceived with moveable seats / tables to allow parklet users to modify the space as desired. A small break in the bench encourages visitors to step through the parklet, in the hopes that the overly-wide roadway might be reclaimed by pedestrians. CH Good Stock participated in the City of Oakland's parklet pilot project, but were compelled to withdraw when faced with the costs associated with a request to double the parklet's size.
